Video: One Of Those Things - Sonia Stein

There is more than a hint of Jessie Ware are Blood Orange to this gorgeous new track from Sonia Stein.

The similarities to Ware's sophisticated pop are perhaps not all that surprising given the fact that One Of Those Things was produced by Liam Howe, who has previously worked with Jessie Ware herself alongside both FKA Twigs and Adele. The track was co-written with Hannah Robinson, who has also worked with Lana Del Rey and Zara Larson, and represents Stein's debut release with Marathon Artists.

With a slick neon-noir inspired video shot in Warsaw by director Aaron Bevan-Bailey, Stein describes the difficulties in realising their creative vision:

"…a Tokyo meets Warsaw look but we quickly realised Warsaw is the least neon city in the world and the signs they did have all switched off at 7pm. Anyone with a keen eye who speaks Polish will recognise that I am actually dancing outside a bakery at one point but the sign fitted our colour pallet perfectly so we went with it."

One Of Those Things is the kind of softly played electronic ballads I can't help but fall head over heels for, especially the distorted vocal melodies in the bridge: Uh-uh, uh-uh, uh-uh. Describing the song, Sonia says:

"The stage of denial about the end of a relationship with someone or something. You hold onto it out of comfort and fear, hoping if you wait a little longer, some semblance of what you had in the first place will show up again."

Stream: No Love - Lyves

I've covered Australian-Italian artist Lyves quite a few times since she first appeared on BlackPlastic in April 2014 with her debut release Visions.

Lyves, real name Francesca Bergami, is back again with a new track called No Love and it is another slice of dramatic soul. The track is co-produced with Atu and describes a period of heartbreak as it soundtracks the end of a relationship. As usual with Bergami's music, the production is deftly woven within her delicately vocal delivery in order to provide space and emphasis for the lyrics.

More than ever it feels like Lyves is ready for the big time and No Love comes ahead of Lyves' long-awaited debut EP Like Water, due for release in January 2017.

Stream: This Time/Remember - Else Born

Having previously appeared on Eskimo alongside label stalwarts Horixon on one of their stand-out tracks Colours, Else Born is back with her debut solo release This Time/Remember.

Else Born's real name is Turid Alida Soldberg, best known as the vocalist from Norwegian pop duo Philco Fiction whose sophomore album Talk/Brag clawed its way into my head back in January. Continuing Soldberg's apparent affection for the forward slash, This Time/Remember is as infectious and understated a slice of electronic pop as you could expect from one half of Philco Fiction. In other words, you should hit play below. I think Eskimo are onto another good thing here...

Else Born was featured on one of the finest Horixon tracks to date, 'Colours'. It was recently used as the soundtrack to the Stella McCartney produced One City, One Girl series based in Berlin. Now Else Born, aka Turid Alida Solberg from Norwegian twisted pop sensation Philco Fiction, steps forward with her very own debut single, 'This Time/Remember'. It’s a melancholic mid-tempo track we instantly fell in love with at the Eskimo HQ. With its gentle synths, soft percussive elements and mesmerizing vocals, 'This Time/Remember' is a beautifully crafted track that creates a sense of nostalgia. On the remixes we find Blue Motel, a French electronic music duo based in Los Angeles, composed of Julien Nolan and Thomas Toccafondi. The cosmic grooves of Blue Motel are stepped in no particular musical tradition, but rather in multi-genre background ranging from disco, funk, house, new wave and other styles. Stream: Black Ink - Sølv

Having come to our attention with her debut single a month ago, Sølv is back with Black Ink, the title track from her forthcoming EP.

Like Losing My Mind, this is obsidian-like pop music. Sølv's sultry vocals soar above the minimal production work, creating an irresistably sinister chorus - a tale of helpless infactuation and a loss of power.

Describing the song, Sølv says:

"People come and go from your life. Black Ink is about the one person who makes their indelible mark on you, the person that changes everything. The one who has the power to make or break your world in an instant, but they're the one you're living for."

Video: Supercool - Ariana and the Rose

Love this track and the new video that Ariana and the Rose have just unveiled to go with it.

With New York as the stage, Ariana and the Rose teamed up with Moxi Girls, and all-female roller skating group to tour through parts of the city. The video takes in Chinatown, Downtown, across the East River and up to Times Square to give a sense of a wild night out that perfectly compliments the the song.

Describing her ambitions for the video, Ariana says:

“When I was thinking about the visuals for the song, I really wanted to portray a group of women doing something unique and completely in their element, and partnering with the Moxi Girls was the perfect fit! The video represents two of my favorite things in the world: badass women and my greatest love, New York City.”

Supercool has a lovely starstruck quality, the pulsing electro sound mirroring that of both the city and the excitement of the narrator. Check it out below.
