News: Phoenix are back!

Phoenix have always been one of those bands that have skirted around the boundary of greatness slow closely so often yet never quite transcended it. Well, it looks like that might be set to change as the band have announced a new album is coming in May entitled 'Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix' and the have a site up offering the new song 1901 for download in MP3 or AAC (props for choices!) and it is awesome. Definitely one of their best ever tracks it has a lush synth bass noise that runs throughout it and the vocals totally encapsulate young male yearning.

Check it out here and watch for some of the most beautiful, understated work in flash BlackPlastic has seen in ages.

Phoenix are on Twitter (if somewhat quiet) here and whilst we are on the subject, BlackPlastic is also on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/blackplastic.

Yours, always,

Just a quick tip o' the hat to bloggers favourite Youth who has posted a loverly mix on his MySpace page, entitled Midnight Beach.  The mixing is occasionally a little choppy but on the whole this is great - particularly the use of Ashley Beedle's remix of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill.  The track listing speaks for itself:

Comment: Teen Creep - James Kane

Twin Peaks' Agent Dale Cooper advised his partner on the show, Sheriff Truman, that you should give yourself one treat a day, even if that treat is just a real cup of coffee. It's a mantra BlackPlastic tries to stick to and today, dear readers, you can start living the life of glory that I do by downloading James Kane's glorious Teen Creep mix from fellow blogger Kitsune Noir.

Aside from a couple of ever so slightly rough transitions the only criticism that could be levelled at this mix is that it is too damn short. In less than 40 minutes you will have taken in some recent destined-to-be-classics (Appaloosa) and some genuine-classics (Roy Parker Jr.'s 'Ghost Busters' or Prince's 'Erotic City') and the result is always pleasingly consistent. This mix has an electronic dream-like vibe throughout that really is fantastic so go and check it out.

James also has some more music and remixes (some of the tracks on this mix have felt his loving touch already) over on his MySpace and at his site and I would recommend checking them out.

Comment: Make This Work - Magistrates

It's only electronic in the sense that some of the intruments are plugged in, but fuck it, absolutely nothing is pleasing BlackPlastic as much right now as a four piece from Essex known as The Magistrates.  'Make This Work' is like Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together' but made in 2008 by a bunch of skinny white british kids and it makes BlackPlastic want to tear off his clothes and go skinny dipping in a lake on a beautiful summer's day.

What's more these fucking crazy kids give you all this FREE... Just sign up for some spam at http://www.magistratesband.com/ and you'll get the track plus an acapella for nada.  If you're prescious about you email address and don't take BP's word on the value here head over to the band's MySpace to preview the goodness.
