Download: Gabrielle - Call Super

Gabrielle (or Gabriel as it later became know on re-release) is regarded as a classic piece of house. With heavy but loose bass and lots of reverb it eventually became a bit of a poster child for UK Garage, despite originated from the US.

Here Call Super takes disperate elements from the original to make a entirely new cut-up chillwave epic. It feels like early days of summer, encapsulating a deep sense of yearning that ran through the original and, as the press release rightly points out, makes the whole thing feel way more Ballearic.

Call Super is Berlin based Joseph Richmond-Seaton and this follows the Staircase EP from earlier this year. Check out his Tumblr for more. Call Super resides on London label Five Easy Pieces.

Download: 2011 Overview Mix - Mario Basanov

Mario Basanov is another artist who has been on my radar for a while. Last year he dropped the nice disco effort 'Up' (which featured on Future Disco 4, as covered here) and he also featured on the Future Balearica album. Whilst those tracks are good it is his latest single, the first to feature a full vocal (delivered by Mario himself no less) that really blew me away.

'Lonely Days' is pure summer Balearic heaven - a fusion of cosmic disco and house that I can't get enough of. The original mix is pure laid back summery goodness whilst the Plate Dub adds a slow piano combined with a driving build-up this is utterly irresistible - to listen to this and not dream of being out lounging in the sun is impossible. Even better is Drop Out Orchestra's remix, which adds a heavier disco flourish to the original and some awesome guitar (there is nowhere near enough guitar in house music). Mario has also just released a free downloadable mix and I'm pleased to say that it totally brings the lush, warm sound that I love about his work to a long form mix. Download: If It Isn't Digital Love - Gamble & Burke

This dropped into the inbox a little while back but I've only just grabbed a minute to post it. Gamble & Burke have previously released material on Kitsune Noir ('Let's Go Together' - check it out on their Soundcloud) and they recently put together this mashup of New Edition's 'If It Isn't Love' together with Daft Punk's 'Digital Love'.

I've not previously ever really checked out New Edition but did after hearing Gamble & Burke's mashup. This version is actually not particularly close to either of the records it draws from and that is actually a good thing - it takes the ideas from the two and goes to a whole new place. The result is an incredibly laid back, slick summer soul record. Apparently this week is due to be a heat wave in Britain so you just might need something like this to cool you down!

Mind Games - Noah Wall

Noah Wall makes something akin to electronic ambient folk from his Brooklyn base, where he writes and records pretty much everything you hear here. Wall is currently working on an album entitled Hèloïse, but this cover version of John Lennon's 'Mind Games' caught my ear.

There's definitely more than a bit of bedroom experimentation in this but the the layers do a really good job of making things interesting. Noah said that this is 'sort of in the style of John Carpenter' and I can totally see what he is getting at... Simultaneously dark and uplifting.

Download: South Pacific - Is Tropical

You may recall BlackPlastic recently posted the video for Is Tropical's forthcoming single 'South Pacific' - a lush little shoe-gazey number that gets us excited for the debut album.

Well the single isn't out for a few weeks yet but the good news is that the song itself is available as a free download now.  The single will be backed with the track 'Tan Man' on the 7", the download will feature remixes from Peaces, Database, Yojimbo and Get People when it drops on 22 November .
